Real action gets going only after page 200. The first 200 pages only deal with how human flesh reacts in intense heat. Endless gory details are given which do not contribute to the plot. This part probably appeals to medical students. Furthermore,it is difficult to take to the first - person narrator as the author doesn't succeed in creating a "human - touch" relationship between the reader and the apparently bereaved narrator who lost his family in an accident. However, the second half of the book makes up for some of the disappointment. There are many unforeseeable and well-written twists in the final outcome of the plot. All this in a highly claustrophobic island atmosphere.

When I first read Chemistry of death I thought I need more of this.Then I saw this book. And I read it. It was one of the bset I ever hold in my hands. Never before I read a book with more tension and a more fascinating plot. Of course it was shocking to see how deep people can fall. All my friends said how can you read this, but if you read the first book, and if you enjoyed it, you will also enjoy this one very much. Although there is an open end I hope more books with David Hunter will follow.
