Everything. It was part of the deal he struck when he helped save the fairies and they aided his rescue of Fowl Snr. from captivity. But, having been accused of a heinous crime, Holly now needs Fowl's expertise once more to clear her name and save Fairykind from oblivion.
Opal Koboi, the most dangerous pixie who ever lived, has eluded capture and is out for revenge. She's framed Holly and tried to kill Artemis and his trusty bodyguard Butler. Holly must try to bring Artemis up to speed quickly in order to foil Opal's dastardly plan to expose the fairies down below to the humans on top.
Like J K Rowling, Colfer has complete mastery over the cast of characters he has created in this popular series of novels. Half of the pleasure of the Harry Potter novels is to be had by simply enjoying how the familiar characters interact--savouring their established foibles and characteristics and revelling in all the new things they get up to. In The Opal Deception, Colfer pairs up his heroes and villains brilliantly and has the same amount of tremendous fun with them. It's witty and enjoyable and will be appreciated by all. Wie vorher auch habe ich mir dieses Buch in der englischsprachigen Originalausgabe geholt und war wie immer begeistert.
Der Autor versteht es, seinem unterirdischen Universum aus Fabelwesen wie immer neue Farbtupfer zu verpassen und den dort lebenden Figuren ihren charakteristischen Stempel aufzudrücken. Als Kinderbuch halte ich Opal Deception nur bedingt für tauglich, denn es wird wieder geschossen, getötet und in großem Maße bedroht und zerstört.
Warum ich nicht 5 Punkte gegeben habe? Artemis wird nett. Das gehört zwar zum Wandel einer Figur dazu, nimmt der Reihe jedoch dne Charme des "criminal mastermind" der ersten drei Bände.

Den vierten Band habe ich komplett durchgehibbelt und alle paar Seiten flossen dann auch ein paar Traenchen.
Es passiert so viel, so schnell, man hat keinen Moment um mal zu verschnaufen. Viele fiese Plaene, viele viele Trolle und noch mehr nachdenkliche Momente als in den vorherigen Baenden.

Artemis fights his archenemy in this one. Again? Yeah, again, but this time all gloves are off: if you expect a funny and enthralling ride out of this one: you are right.
Expect it to sell like hotcakes, and rightfully so!

Eoin Colfer has done it again with this non-stop action novel. Comical and fast paced, this is a real page turner as boy genius Artemis, Holly, Butler, and Mulch try to stop the evil pixie Opal Koboi who has awakened, broken out of prison, and is exacting her revenge on the two world and their inhabitants. But stopping her will be anything but easy for Artemis and his friends. Opal's evil plan is like the tangle of a spider's web. And then there's Artemis. His memories gone, Artemis must remember his past in order to stop Opal and save both worlds from certain doom. Briliant! Another book I've enjoyed: The alien invasion adventure "GAAK" by Darryl Hughes. Four "Goonies" like kids take on adolesence and kooky aliens i order to save the world. Too funny.

Colfer brennt wieder ein Feuerwerk von Ideen und actionreicher Handlung ab - Wahnsinn.
Auch wenn der Vergleich mit Harry Potter lange passé ist, er bietet sich hier nochmal an: Der Held reift, es stirbt jemand, ob das alles noch kindgerecht ist, darf bezweifelt werden. Aber, wie gesagt, im Gegensatz zu Potter 5 gibt es absolut keine Zeit zum Durchatmen.
1 Stern Abzug, weil Colfer sein eigenes Antiheld-Konzept nicht durchhalten kann (Fowl wird nett).
